For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
In January 2020 I was writing my goals for the upcoming year. I used a familiar format and started listing my goals in major categories such as spiritual growth, fitness/exercise, financial, travel & vacation . With pen in hand, I quickly noted goals under each category until I reached Travel & Vacation. Amazing memories of prior trips to Italy prompted me to consider setting a goal to return for a third trip — to a different region. I was surprised when I sensed a divine warning: “Don’t travel this year.”
Days later, a close friend called to share her 2020 goals. I told her that I would not be travelling anywhere. I explained that 2020 was a year for me to be still, chill and spend more time at home. I removed vacation travel from my goal list for 2020. Five months later in May 2020, the USA was experiencing adverse effects of the COVID epidemic. The instruction I had heard during prayer in January made perfect sense! During COVID I spent much of my time focused on prayer, reading, walking outdoors, and writing prayers or devotions. In fact, my website prayerchampions.com is a result of simple obedience to God’s direction during my goal session.
Before rushing into annual goal setting, make time to reflect, pray, and listen to God. His agenda for the coming year will be perfect for you!
Prayer :
Heavenly Father, help me to align my heart, mind, actions, and resources with your divine plan for my life.
